Pancho's Mexican Restaurant
An Anne & Steve review

La comida Mexicana authentica en Pittsfield. We have been to many Mexican dinners in our married life. Mexican food is date food: chips, salsa, guacamole...Like Water for Chocolate, Mexican food is for lovers and lovers of Mexican food need look no further than the cantina right next door on North Street in Pittsfield.

The décor and atmosphere are charming south of the border and very clean and spacious. No substitutions, no fancy fusion, many dishes have their own unique twist without straying from traditional Mexican home cooking.

We were surprised at how smooth the guacamole looked but were delighted by the flavor. The plantain wrapped in a corn tortilla topped with mole sauce is delicious and could easily double as a dessert. The tamale really satisfies those who want to fill up on the starters. The chile relleno has scrumptious ground beef, potato and cheese inside, making it a full meal with refried beans (we have never tested better) and yellow rice. The Carnitas a la Mexicana is spicy and hot, succulent pork tips sauted with onion, garlic, tomato and serrano peppers. The chicken burrito, wrapped in a freshly made warm tortilla, is healthful and delicate, and one of the best we have ever tasted.

We have revisited many times. One of Steve favorite dishes now is the enchorizado con queso. Spicy sausage with cheese and potatoes.

Drinks available but not necessary. This is a first class bargain, as good to your senses as it is for you. Pancho’s Mexican food is highly recommended.
