Where to eat in the Berkshires/Western Massachusetts

RESTAURANTS in PITTSFIELD

Just simply one of the best dining destinations in the area, Crowne West Plaza has created an engaging Soho boutique hotel style atmosphere where the food is fresh and delicious. There is no Soho pretensions here, however. You're even invited to take a dip in the gorgeous indoor pool right there next to the lounge. The restaurant proper is huge and seamlessly attached to the festive lounge/bar area but as you can see from the video, still intimate and chic in design.

The night we went the dining room eventually became lively and well-filled with many happy skiing guests: the kids running free, the teenagers in their element and the parents just relaxing with a drink. We got a wonderful Chianti split we were craving on this cold winter night which was more than enough after getting a generous tasting of the Washington State Merlot special wine of the month that was surprisingly good.

The food as you can see is very nicely prepared. The pulled pork appetizer from the $5 lounge menu was as good as Virgil's BBQ; tender, moist, tangy and tasty. The Sweet potato fries that come piled high next to the stack of pulled pork are natural as can be with the flavor that goes perfectly with the pork as does the no-mayo slaw.

Steve had the cod fish and chips which had a beer batter surrounding the flakey, sturdy and juicy fish. The chips aren't the best (sweet potato fries are much better) but you do need them to dab up every last bit of the delectable homemade tartar sauce.

Anne had the Roasted chicken and boy is that a dish! Do not skip this. The table next to us had one and every bit was gone, no leftovers.

I need to try the ribs. By the time we got there which was early enough, they were sold out. Probably by the loyal friendly bar/lounge crowd that takes advantage of the rib $5 special.

To sum up, if for no other reason but to do your tummy some yummy at a budget, saddle up to the bar and order some lounge specials. you will think you're in Soho but you'll be eatin' like a hog in heaven or more precisely eating a hog from Heaven?
